I still don’t have my energy completely back from the common cold that attacked me on December 24, and as a result, I am falling (slightly) further behind on my various commitments with each passing day. Under the Last In, First Out principle, my most recent commitment will be the first to go: I am suspending Weird Planet Daily, after 5-1/2 months of kick-ass work.
The weekly News of the Weird columns will continue, as will my daily newspaper reading and website scanning and as will my personal attention to every single mailed and e-mailed news tip you are kind enough to favor me with. Writing Weird Planet Daily added about 3 hours a day to my workload (beyond what I would have spent searching for stories for News of the Weird), and that’s 21 hours a week that right now I need very much to retrieve.
This announcement will come as a shock to those who haven’t been paying attention to my notes in this space before and who still believe that it must be a “staff” that puts together all this stuff. No. There are website producers who operate this site, and there are salespeople who try to sell News of the Weird to various media outlets, and of course there are lots of people who graciously tip me to stories. But everything else associated with this venture I do myself, and from time to time, I have to make adjustments.
